Ian Thompson & FA Standard Charter

Fri 24th Apr 2020

For those of you who don’t follow the club’s social media channels, we have recently published the information below:

IAN THOMPSON

A short while ago, we announced the appointment of a new Consultant Director of Coaching to our parents and players.  We now feel the time is right to publicise this on a wider footing, particularly to those who will soon be making choices about where they might wish to play football when the current restrictions surrounding Covid-19 are lifted.

Ian Thompson is an A License Coach, whose CV is both long and very impressive.  Most recently, he was head of the Foundation Phase at Yeovil Town Football Club but he has, for many years, operated as a coach educator in the Somerset area.  His passion and enthusiasm for the game burns brightly and is obvious to anyone who observes him in action or speaks with him.
Ian’s role with us, in newly created post, will be to:

Ian will also be observing fixtures and passing feedback to our coaches so that the players get the best experience possible.  Ian’s contacts with professional clubs will also mean that introductions can be provided for those players who meet the criteria to be put forward for trials at a higher level – although this will never be our primary focus as we will always be intent on developing each and every player to maximise their ability.

As a Community Trust, we are lucky to have an A Licence coach with a fantastic football knowledge keen to help us move the programme forward.

FA STANDARD CHARTER AWARD

Moving on from the above, we are delighted to announce that we have, today, received confirmation that we have secured Charter Standard status from The FA.  This is the culmination of a good deal of hard work and dedication by our management team.  It demonstrates to parents, sponsors and the public that our club is well organised, safe and provides opportunities for all.  It also confirms the club has FA-qualified coaches as standard and adheres to FA Respect policies and codes of conduct and prioritises child welfare as well as appropriate levels of discipline.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED

As mentioned in the  previous mail-shot, we will continue to inform you regarding developments. The club will follow Government advice in relation to dealing with the COVID-19 situation and take the lead from both the Somerset FA and English FA.
